The Dalesman

Coaching Inn in the heart of Sedbergh

About Our
Coaching Inn

Situated in the heart of picturesque Sedbergh, The Dalesman has been a family-run business for two generations. Formally known as the Golden Lion, the building has been lovingly restored over the years and we have built a solid reputation for quality, holding two AA Rosettes and a Four Gold Star accommodation rating. Our emphasis on local produce and putting back into the local area has never been more important or more valued.

In addition to our welcoming bar and restaurant, we offer a selection of stylish and comfortable guest accommodation.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to both Sedbergh and The Dalesman.

Home of
Sedbergh Gin

Sedbergh’s own gin is our newest addition. We distill in small batches which gives us the traditional dry gin, sometimes lost by some larger people in the industry. Distilling in small batches allows us to take away and add flavours precisely.

Stay with us in our Coaching Inn

From our recently converted, ultra-stylish top floor suites to our cosy single bedroom, we have a selection of individually designed guest rooms to suit all occasions and requirements, as well as a separate two-bedroom cottage which is just a stones throw away.

Offering both comfort and style our guest rooms feature luxurious Sealy beds, top quality furnishings and plush fabrics, as well as modern touches and little details, such as smart televisions and locally made eco-friendly toiletries. Find out more about each of our unique guestrooms below.

Seasonal, Local & Fresh

We pride ourselves on using ‘Sedbergh born & bred’ wherever we can (this even extends to our wonderful team of staff!). Our creative, seasonally influenced menu is designed by our talented chefs with a focus on championing fabulous local ingredients and a sustainable approach.

Our own breed Livestock

We are incredibly proud of where our ingredients come from, no more than our meat. Brian and his team at Birks Farm Sedbergh supply us with Galloway beef and rough fell lamb all year round. The livestock is grazed at Marthwaite and then brought down to pasture in Sedbergh. The travel from Field to Restaurant is less than 30 miles, almost unheard of anywhere in the UK. This adds to the taste and quality of the meat but also to the quality of the animal.

Not only is this entirely unique to us and our venue at The Dalesman Country Inn which allows us to be above and beyond anyone quality wise, what we do encourages money to go back into our community directly and back to the farm.

Visit the area

The Dalesman Country Inn is the ideal base for visiting the English Lake District or exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
