The Dalesman is a traditional English Inn which has a lovely character and feel to it. The staff are excellent and the food is so much better than regular pub food you could compare it to a good restaurant. The chef manages to keep a pub feel about the menu, but don't be surprised when your meal is elevated to the high standard they have achieved here.
The meat and seafood dishes are superb, but beware! You may not be able to eat a dessert if you have a starter - the portions are typically quite generous like Cumbrian and Yorkshire folk expect - no meagre portion will be served. If you're a walker in search of a hearty meal, look no further.
Having eaten here previously I can say the standard of food is quite remarkable, they keep the menu refreshed with interesting dishes - the starters are superb, and the main dishes always excellent. Excellent ales. (Loweswater Gold!) and excellent wines.

Lovely hotel in the Dales We stayed overnight at the Dalesman on our walk through the Dales Way. We absolutely loved our stay. The staff was so welcoming and got us settled after a long walk for the day. Our room is lovely, bed comfy and great shower.
We were in the street side of the Inn so it was a little noisy but nice people settled down for the it was fine.
We’d stay again.

We stayed here twice overnight this summer as we traveled from Scotland to Norfolk and back Very comfortable and well appointed rooms and friendly staff. All good.
Will definitely stay again on our travels.
Village also looks interesting but we did not make time to explore.

We booked a meal here, would definitely advise to book as it clearly has a great reputation and gets very busy. It’s a lovely, comfortable pub to sit in with a mixture of diners and drinkers. The staff are really lovely too from the bar staff to the waiting staff, very efficient, very ‘on it’ and very friendly. The food is absolutely outstanding. We had the prawns and chorizo starter and the focaccia and olives; we followed this with half chateaubriand and the seafood linguine, absolutely delicious and faultless. We had no room for desserts. It was all very lovely.

Walking The Dales Way, we arrived tired at the Dalesman but perked up before long as we booked in for dinner which included products from their own smokery a theme of local and home made products in the pub. All food was excellent, beyond what we normally get, and expect, from pubs. Local toiletries, homemade shortbread in our room and wonderful ale. What a stop!

Fantastic meal and service was excellent. Had fish and chips and it was delicious. 100% would eat here again

The staff were excellent, made us feel very relaxed and we were well looked after.

The hotel was easily accessible from Joss Street car park, just a brief 2 minute walk directly up the road.

Parking was free between 18:00 - 09:00 so it didn’t cost us anything. There’s another car park as well which is just a short walk away from the hotel.

The hotel has a relaxed atmosphere, the restaurant was fairly busy but we were seen too immediately when we arrived. We were taken to our room which was very clean, the bed was very comfortable.

We ate in the restaurant that evening, booking is advised as it can clearly get busy. The service was excellent and we didn’t have to wait long before being seen to. The food was excellent and it’s not too overly priced, although it’s slightly more expensive than other places but the quality of the food speaks for itself, so it’s definitely worth it.

It was very comfortable nights sleep, the bed was clean, fresh towels were provided. The bathroom was very clean, with local soaps, shower gels etc.

As others have stated, the hotel is situated on the main road that runs through Sedbergh so it can be a little noisy in the morning, however we were up early for breakfast so it wasn’t a problem for us.

Breakfast was another excellent dining experience, with a choice of sourdough toast, cereals, yoghurt, tea, coffee, juices and then the option from a range of cooked breakfasts, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed.

We will definitely return and stay here again.

Very nice place to eat out. We had dinner here and really enjoyed the warm ambiance, the young staff who were clearly eager to do a good job and the very good food.

Just as good the second time around! Room one - Wonderful. Big comfy bed and a fan (perfect for the current weather) Be advised breakfast is not included in the price of the room and the TV channels are hit and miss. Central location for Sedbergh. Would definitely recommend!

A Great Find in Sedbergh On a day out I’d booked a table for two as this was two hours from our starting point and 1.45 a good time to stop for a bite to eat and a drink. I had seen the Dalesman online and took a chance as it looked very nice and reviews were good. We arrived to a cheery welcome, the service was very good . We ordered burgers that came with cheese as well as a pheasant sausage on top and fries. It was a little too heavy for me and I didn’t manage to finish leaving just a small amount. Overall a very nice experience but notable the eating in a nice pub due to rising costs is not as cheap as it was. The cost for two drinks with burger and fries was £57 but this place is lovely and I’d definitely recommend it.

Great Stay Myself and my wife were initially camping near sedbergh when our tent leaked overnight and we had to look for somewhere to stay at short notice.

Luckily The Dalesman Country Inn had a room available. For the price the room was fantastic, facilities were great and it was immaculate.

We had an evening meal and the food was excellent, don’t let the price put you off, you are not just paying for clearly very high quality ingredients but exceptionally talented chefs and welcoming staff.

The breakfast at only an extra £20 for the both of us was great value for money and once again the food was excellent. It set us up well for our walk.

I cannot for the life of me fathom why the rating is 3.9 on trip advisor as this greatly undermines what they are doing at the Dalesman.

All round fantastic stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to return to sedbergh simply for this pub/hotel/restaurant.

Beautiful room and great food awaits. Room was atmospheric and immaculate. Staff were very friendly and genuine. A home from home. Dinner and breakfast were wholesome and local. Will definitely be back.
